Critical Analysis Subject-Rebel Music
The critical analysis subject I have chosen is a documentary put out by MTV called Rebel Music. It features artists from the Native American community. It discusses issues the Native American youth are dealing with today and how these artists are raising awareness through their music. The film was promoted through the artist featured, MTV's Facebook page, and shared among the Native American online news media. The documentary will only be shown on the MTV Facebook page and not broadcast on the cable channel. It is part one of six episodes.

Religion 3.0
I like having scripture and manuals on my iPad. It beats carrying another thing around at church, with two kids I am already armed with snacks, coloring books and various toys. I have never really thought about this subject too much until our discussion in class, besides convenience. I don't really announce my religion to people unless they ask. I don't put it on my Facebook page. I figure religion is like your sexuality, why do you need to know? What difference is that going to make? You either like a person as they are or you don't. I am not ashamed of what I believe in and will answer any question to the best of my ability. I don't feel a pressing need to connect with people on the internet with my same beliefs. I was going to say I don't follow any religious people or pages, but I do follow KLOVE radio's page. I follow them because they have cool bible quotes from time to time. Religion is a funny subject, because people's reactions are so varied and sometimes unpredictable.

Change
How would I change the educational system? I wouldn't know where to start. I think the people who were on the film we saw in class had some really good ideas. Now we just need to find how to apply and refine these ideas and bring them to the masses. I guess allowing children to learn on their own, giving them freedom to explore, while teaching principles of the subject. Not forcing them to fit in a box. As many people can see it is not working.
Finding out how each child learns and when a good time to learn a certain subject would be revolutionary. Building education around the child would be great. I have thought a lot about homeschooling my children. I have been talking to some of my friends who are doing this. One of my friends said that the state requires at least four hours a day of learning. This can include field trips. The same friend put her children back into the public school system and said that her children have tested at grade level or above in some subjects. She put them back in for the social aspect. She gets her ideas for teaching subjects from the internet and from the books she teaches out of. This same friend was home schooled and felt she missed out on the social side of things. She did graduate before she was 17 and was in college way before me. Is this the answer for everyone? No.
Like I said at the beginning I don't have any fresh ideas to resolve this problem. In the mean time I will do all I can to support new ideas and bring about change.

My learning style
My learning style is hands on, visual, and auditory. I learn best by watching someone do the task first and then try it on my own. I grew up in a home where my father worked all the time. My mother was a stay at home mom. She is creative and inventive. Instead of relying on my father to do home repairs, she did it herself. In fact, she made it a point to teach us how to do them with her. If she didn't know how to do something she would read about it, or ask someone she knew to tell her how to do it. I think this shaped my learning style.
My childhood home was a place where music was important. My mother sang in choirs, groups and did solos for random events. I learned to sing by listening to her voice and matching the same notes she did. I was in many children's choirs growing up, but now I just sing to my children. I also played the piano from age four to 16 years. Reading the music and listening to my teacher play a piece of music was the best way for me to learn that skill.
If the school system worked with the learning styles of the student in mind, I would have done better. I liked the idea of learning certain subjects at the prime time of day for the student. I learn math better in the morning. I learned that through trial and error of scheduling classes. I probably could have spent less money, time and tears knowing this earlier.
My concern now is with my son and how and what he is learning in school. It's hard for him, because he has PTSD. He is not disruptive in class, he just freezes and sits there. So far the teacher gets frustrated with him which makes him even more anxious. He is learning something, because he does his home work without my help and the answers are correct. He is in counceling at school and he sees a therapist once a week. Finding out what times of day work out best for him for learning subjects or testing would be awesome. I would do anything to help him become the best human he can be.
